Work Screen has grown out of a shared belief that good work is good for people and that early identification of Work Instability is the key to effective management and maintenance of work performance.

WORKSCREEN has grown out of a shared belief that good work is good for people. There is strong evidence that work is a social determinant of health, self worth, confidence, identity and standing within the community as well as a means of material progress, social participation and fulfillment. For people experiencing health, disability-related or other issues at work that are affecting how well they are managing we believe that early identification of Work Instability is the key to effective management and maintenance of work performance.

The team at WORKSCREEN have a longstanding interest in Work Instability, this is the term used to describe any mismatch there may be between someone’s work capacity and their work demands at a point in time. If there is a mismatch Work Screen measures the potential impact of this on how well an individual copes at work. In people with higher levels of Work Instability productivity and work attendance can start to be affected.

The following of Work Instability is used:

‘Work Instability is a state in which the consequences of a mismatch between an individual’s functional, and cognitive abilities and the demands of his or her job can threaten continuing employment if not resolved’

(Ref: Gilworth et al; see publications)

There are many possible explanations of why people experience Work Instability. If an individual employee has a health problem or disability it is possible that some aspects of their current work role are unsuitable. Work Instability can also be influenced by numerous other workplace factors including workload, stress and anxiety, work organisation, relationships with work colleagues and the work environment.
